As a strategic BBRA project, this portfolio is a heritage initiative to promote diverse community cultural offerings. We wish to establish a register of the cultural offerings currently available in Betty’s Bay. Please contact me on email at bettysbayratepayers@gmail.com, or on my cell phone (083 427 3706) – by call, SMS, or WhatsApp – to inform me of any directly or indirectly drama or theatre related offerings. We wish to know about you in order to be of assistance to you and to our community.

Personally, I offer weekly physical theatre classes which are going from strength to strength. The classes are every Thursday from 15H00 -17H00 at Crassula hall.

I offer Drama and improvisation classes the second Wednesday of every month at Crassula hall. The next class will be on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 from 11H00-12H30. Working towards performances would be lovely, but mainly I wish to create a space for individuals to explore creative ways to use one’s voice and body, and to express thoughts and ideas; and I plan to include enhancing skills in reading, storytelling (especially to children), and public speaking skills.

I am a newbie on the BBRA committee, and I have a freshly created portfolio – “Drama and Theatre Arts”.

As a strategic BBRA project, the portfolio is a heritage initiative to promote diverse community cultural offerings. And I request your assistance!

Personally, I have recently started a weekly physical theatre class, and I am planning to start a weekly drama (in the broad sense) class soon. Working towards performances would be lovely, but mainly I wish to create a space for individuals to explore creative ways to use one’s voice and body, and to express thoughts and ideas; and I plan to include enhancing skills in reading, storytelling (especially to children) and public speaking skills.

Welcome to Drama and Theatre Arts, a new portfolio of the BBRA, which is now my responsibility.

I look forward to arranging and promoting drama and theatre arts in Betty’s Bay. And I would welcome suggestions in such regard from all of you. Please note, this does not mean professional performance – your participation is my goal, and it need not involve any performance. I look forward to hearing from you. My contact details are provided below.

My name is Ilona Frege. At the beginning of 2024, my husband and I relocated from Cape Town to what had been our holiday home in Betty’s Bay for 20 years.

I specialise in physical theatre, acting, voice, choreography, and movement direction. I have taught at various tertiary institutions (University of Stellenbosch, Wits, and UCT), and at private institutions and schools in the Western Cape, offering modules in physical theatre and acting. I have more than 30 years of experience working as a performer, theatre educator, and theatre-maker. In 2019, I launched Frege Moves, offering specialised training in physical theatre, movement for performance, and acting.

Are you curious about exploring creative ways to use your voice and body to express thoughts and ideas, your own as well as from texts or poems? I would love to meet up with you, so I am arranging a Meet and Greet at Crassula Hall on

Wednesday 12 November: 11H00-12H00

Please be there! I can be contacted on: ilona@fregemoves.co.za or 083 427 3706
