Message from the Chairman – January 2023

Posted on 8 Feb, 2023

Greetings to all ratepayers and residents of Betty’s Bay. I trust we all are well rested and energised, ready for action. Let’s build 2023 idea by idea, project by project. Last year the BB Ratepayers Association (BBRA) spent much time planning and restructuring to suit the dynamics of our community in partnership with the Overstrand Municipality (OM). This year we have a few more new members on-board, a new vice-chairman in Rob Boyd and a new secretary in Karon Scholefield. My vision and direction for the portfolios were communicated at our first committee meeting held on 11 January 2023. The main focus was on specifying goals for the year and adding a budget to each goal. We will register these goals and invite your assistance in achieving them in the February newsletter. We have also introduced a monthly debate programme to further improve our understanding of the needs of our community in terms of services.

Monthly debate sessions: every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 18:00 at the Crassula Hall.

The debates are important for us to understand what we need as a community, how best to solve problems we have in our village and, most importantly, to assess what we need to take forward to the Ward 10 Committee Meetings. The subject matter is not cast in stone and may change as required.

The monthly debate schedule is as follows:

  1. February: Eskom and power outages
  2. March: Poaching in BB
  3. April: Finding a space for dogs to run free
  4. May: Party houses
  5. June: Domestic animals (pets)
  6. July: The ablution facilities project
  7. August: Business and opportunities
  8. September: Gardening and our Biosphere
  9. October: Security of homes, business and infrastructure
  10. November: to be decided

Let the discussions be lively and positive!

Monthly meetings: at 17:00 in the Crassula Hall.

BBRA committee meetings are on the 2nd  Wednesday of every month

BB Neighbourhood Watch (BBNW) committee meetings are every last Wednesday of every month

Debates every 3rd Wednesday of every month.

Importantly we have created a time slot before each meeting to accommodate ratepayers and residents wishing to engage with us. This engagement will form part of the minutes. Please take note: I will not accommodate anyone who feels this is the space to vent. Your concerns and/or suggestions need to be constructive. If for some reason there is no portfolio for your requirement or not sufficient human resources within a portfolio to follow up on your requirement, I will create a space for you within the BBRA to carry out your desired action. If it will serve this community or add value to what is already on the go, then you are most welcome to voice your opinions and concerns.

What’s on the table at the Ward 10 Committee meeting?

  1. A request for the expansion of the parking area at our beaches
  2. A new roof for Crassula Hall
  3. Speed calming on Clarence Drive
  4. Site 2010 Delport Rd, Silversands
  5. An addendum to the Kelp harvesting permit to safeguard our coastal birds during breeding season
