Our new volunteers were not welcomed by a trial of fire but rather by water! The nine volunteers certainly had their hands full responding to all the call-outs for various incidents of flooding, shoveling sand and stones off main roads for their community’s safety. Yes, a lot may not be their job, but the hearts of volunteers have no limits and they will step in and do what they can when they can – it’s a heart job!
We had to assist with multiple MVA’s and worked very well with the BEST medical team.
FLOODS: The recent weather has been hectic for us all. We were dispatched to multiple flooded homes and handed out countless sandbags to divert water. We implore everyone – if the stormwater drains near your homes are blocked, report them immediately. Where possible, work with neighbours to keep them clear. It is in your best interest. The volunteers have tried very hard to assist those who were unable to do their own. We respect that it is the OM’s responsibility but sometimes we need to be proactive to protect our homes.
