BETTY’S BAY FIRE & RESCUE VOLUNTEERS

With Fire Season almost upon us, the team is hard at work honing their skills and training sometimes twice a week, to make sure that they are all as prepared as possible to jump into action when the time comes.

All new recruits are progressing amazingly well and are ready to tackle any and all challenges that they may face together this season.

We have continued our integrated training with OM Kleinmond Fire & Rescue teams, as well as Pringle Bay Volunteers, working on various drills and scenario training sessions, and all teams are now much better equipped to work together as one cohesive team as and when needed, to provide maximum support across our neighbouring villages.

This past month there has been an increased emphasis on Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) response training, with the team focusing on first response to an MVA scene and securing the safety of the scene on arrival as their primary task, as well as assisting OM Kleinmond Fire & Rescue with extractions if and when needed.

Our teams have continued to push forward with their focus on functional physical fitness, attending sessions together in Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay once to twice per week whenever possible, in addition to our existing training.

The team also takes time out to check, clear, test and paint all the hydrants throughout the village, and this will be an ongoing project throughout the next couple of weeks until all hydrants have been checked. Our station and vehicle have also been serviced and cleaned thoroughly this past month.

FIRE & RESCUE: The team has responded to only one MVA this month so far, working again with the BEST medical first responders to ensure that patient and scene safety are prioritized, and thereafter assisting the OM Kleinmond Fire & Rescue team with clearing and cleaning the scene.
