CONSERVATION CARE AND PROJECTS
Elsa Stofberg has been appointed to the portfolio of Conservation Care & Projects. Welcome, Elsa! She writes:
During our internal committee meeting of 12 February 2025, it was decided that the following needs to be addressed:
Overgrown verges:
The representatives of each zone in Betty’s Bay have been requested to receive feedback from their community and home owners regarding critically overgrown verges that might cause a threat to the safety of people due to traffic and/or fire. The representatives will send the critical list through to the BBRA and myself, in order for us to take it up urgently with the municipality and the Parks Department.
Please note that it is mandatory by law for each home owner of Betty’s Bay to maintain their portion of the municipality grounds on their property boundary. Great care must still be given to indigenous vegetation of which only a portion (20%) may be trimmed, whereas alien plants have to be removed entirely. We urge each zone to have a community driven response and take the initiative to assist with clearing dangerous, overgrown verges.
We are also looking forward to new projects on the horizon, uplifting the community and the beautiful natural environment of Betty’s Bay. We would love to get everyone involved and to be proud of what we are going to achieve and put on display to the rest of the Overberg area and visiting tourists. We will share the details as soon as these projects have been approved.
