- Building Control:
As the Kleinmond Branch only recently opened / resumed the approval of building plans, new figures on submitted building plans and approved building plans for December, January and February will be supplied when available. The figures will give an indication of what to expect regarding the number of possible building sites in the Betty’s Bay area.
- Vehicles:
Stormwater: Only one vehicle allocated for stormwater purposes is not in working order. A mini-excavator has been allocated to the Kleinmond Office to help with stormwater issues. Therefore, two vehicles are in use.
The two teams for stormwater have been combined, working one week in Betty’s Bay (BB) and one week in Kleinmond (KM).
Grading: The vehicles used are currently not in running order. No grading will take place until such time as the vehicles are running again. The estimated time is ±2 weeks.
What needs to be noted is that all vehicles (3 tons +) must be evaluated annually for roadworthiness before new vehicle licenses are issued. One vehicle still must pass the roadworthy test. It first needs to be fixed before it can be evaluated again. Therefore, it is state of the vehicles that needs to be considered when dealing with the issue of storm water / road maintenance.
General: For Water and Sanitation: Additional sewer tankers and Bakkies have apparently been bought / contracted in. It is hoped that the following will be possible in the new Financial Year 2025/26:
- Additional Sewer Trucks
- Additional Tippers
iii. Additional TLB’s
- Additional Bakkies
- Gravel: Approximately R600 000 has been allocated via the Midterm Budget for the purchasing of gravel. Approximately R9 million has been budgeted for/requested for the new Financial Year: 2025/26
There is still approximately 100 tons of gravel available for the broader KM/BB/Pringle Bay (PB)/Rooi Els(RE) This is for the grading of the roads.
- Tar: There are currently approximately 300 bags of tar available for the broader area. A contractor has been appointed to assist with the tarring of roads in BB. The contractor uses its own tar.
- Betty’s Bay Roads / Stormwater: As the Municipality becomes aware of a problem, they are addressing it within their capabilities i.e. vehicles available / given working conditions (weather).
- Entrance from Clarence to Seaview (Kleinmond side): The entrance has been re-tarred (04/02/2025).
- Speed Bumps: It is estimated that the reconstruction of speed bumps will be commenced soon. Gravel for this will be ordered.
Speed bumps remain a contentious issue. Speed bumps on gravel roads are most probably illegal as they cannot be clearly marked as required by law. Chevrons alone are inadequate as the bump itself must be painted/marked.
- Speed Signage: Speed signage (40km/h) throughout Betty’s Bay has been ordered for placement / replacement.
- Cutting of verges: The Parks Division is responsible for this and issues must be reported to them. The stormwater team in BB is also attending to this issue.
- Standing note: Residents must log issues on Collab themselves to get a reference number. When it is over a weekend and it is urgent, the Control Room (028 313 8111) must be notified.
