Saving Snakes

In January, Steed Maher gave a very informative talk on various aspects of the snakes found in Betty’s Bay. He encouraged residents to “know the local snakes” and to help protect, conserve and relocate rather than kill them.

Last week, a resident who attended Steed’s talk contacted me as she had a beautiful slithering visitor hiding amongst her pot plants. She has cats and requested some help to relocate the visitor.

Thanks to Steed, who responded to my call, and safely relocated the berg adder to a safe place.

It is good to know that the BBC events help to educate residents to help them to save our wildlife. Steed can be contacted on 083 559 6257 if assistance is needed to relocate a snake. Snake catchers do appreciate a donation for their work. Steed is saving up for extra equipment.
