With training season in full swing, the team have starting with monthly theory training and assessments on the 5th Edition of Fire Fighting Essentials, which each Reservist is required to complete alongside the municipal crew.
In July, the team successfully completed the theory and practical assessments for Tactical Ventilation. Now in August, they will complete a section on Loss Control: Overhaul, Property Conservation and Scene Preservation.
FIRE & RESCUE: We are grateful to have had a quiet month, with only one major incident involving an injured sandboarder who needed assistance getting down from the sand dunes. Due to the injuries involved, the patient was eventually rescued by a helicopter.

A well-maintained garden will reduce a fire’s intensity and help slow down its progress. SANBI recommends that new gardens are laid out in three Fire Wise zones. Established gardens or natural fynbos gardens should work towards achieving these Fire Wise zones every single year.
