🔥 OCTOBER: A MONTH FOR FIRE PREPARATION & PREVENTION 🔥

Betty’s Bay, as a community, let’s prepare before the fire season.

October is the perfect time to start preparing our homes and properties for the coming fire season.

Living in a fynbos fire biome, and with the warmer, drier and often windier months approaching, prevention becomes one of our most important tools. We may not be able to control the weather or prevent every fire, but we can reduce the risk around our homes and help make our community safer.

Our fire teams are working hard to prepare for the season ahead. But fire prevention starts with each and every one of us.

🌿 THIS OCTOBER, LET’S CLEAR THE WAY

Take some time to walk around your property and identify potential fire hazards.

🌿 Clear dry vegetation and long grass around your home.

🌳 Cut back overgrown trees and branches, particularly those close to buildings, roofs and power lines.

🔥 Remove garden waste, dead vegetation, leaves and other combustible material.

🏚️ Keep vacant and undeveloped plots maintained and free of excessive vegetation and rubbish.

🚒 Keep driveways and access routes clear so that emergency vehicles can reach your property quickly if needed.

🌲 If your home borders fynbos or open land, take extra care and create a safer, cleared area around your property.

 PREVENTION STARTS AT HOME

Betty’s Bay is fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful fynbos and natural areas. These are part of what makes our community so special, but during hot, dry and windy conditions, vegetation can also become fuel for a rapidly spreading fire.

Please don’t wait for the first fire to start preparing.

Use October to get your property ready. Talk to your neighbours, help where you can, and encourage others to do the same.

A little work now can make a big difference when the fire season arrives.

LET’S MAKE OCTOBER A MONTH OF PREPARATION & PREVENTION: Prepare. Clear. Maintain. Protect.

Together, we can help keep Betty’s Bay safe, prepared and fire-ready.
