- GENERAL
It is unfortunate, but Betty’s Bay is becoming more under pressure regarding development. Where-ever one walks / drives, building sites are the normal trend. I see Betty’s Bay currently as a “building site.” 😊
One cannot stop development per se. Each landowner has the right to develop their stand, as we as current residents did. However, to keep the village character of Betty’s Bay, residents have to be “awake” to ensure that what is built is in accordance with the zoning of the specific erf and adheres to the applicable development controls i.e. coverage, Floor Area Ratio, height, building lines and overlay zones for heritage and environment. And where not, such actions should be reported to the correct department at Overstrand Municipality (OM). The BBRA should also be made aware of such possible contraventions in order to assist.
The BBRA is frequently requested for input on Land-Use Applications submitted to OM. These Land-Use Applications differ in nature from re-zonings to subdivisions to consolidations to departures. Each application is scrutinised on its own merit and where necessary commented on: as an example: Erf 2648, 97 Clarence Drive, Betty’s Bay where an application was submitted to erect a 6m x 3m billboard. The BBRA Committee strongly objected to this application. A copy of the Objection is available.
