Annalize & Herman Breedt are the new team members responsible for the support of the Operational Team of BBNW.
The main focus point in the short term for this team will be asset management and the maintenance of the hut in Crassula Street.
In addition the Support Team will also be responsible for erecting clearly visible Neighbourhood Watch signage at identified entry points into Betty’s Bay and for obtaining the necessary approval from the municipality in this regard.
A verification and assessment of the state of the current assets such as radios, torches, night vision equipment, batteries and battery chargers as well as of the various items of clothing that were issued to the Operational members of the BBNW will be done as a matter of urgency. Once this is done it will enable the team to formalize a ‘repair and/or renewal’ strategy and to create a list of items to be added that will enhance the capabilities of the Operational Team.
Future submissions to this newsletter will provide more information as to the readiness of the entire team to safeguard the community against crime in our beloved Betty’s Bay.
Talking crime and/or emergencies: We endeavour to follow up and get to the bottom of all complaints and calls for help. It is, however, very disappointing to find out that the charges have been dropped or the victims have refused to lay a formal complaint at SAPS, after all the work we do in tracking and finding perpetrators. Effectively we have put this criminal or Mr Meaner back into our community scot-free and off the hook. The criminals will transgress again and next time things might not be so simple. Please follow through with the process of having the person charged for his/her transgression.
Please report to SAPS any breaking in and entering of your home or the removal of items from your property. On many occasions when we finally catch someone and have them charged, we find out that he has been doing this for many years, but has been let off every time because people drop charges or make private arrangements with relatives. We must nip these things in the bud as early as possible.
