The situation remains the same:
The boundaries of the erven need to be determined/re-pegged as this will determine the area to be cleared/filled/levelled.
Two areas to be cleared and filled with gravel are indicated in green.
The availability of gravel is currently a concern.
It needs to be determined who will bear the cost of the payment to the required Land Surveyor.
Main Beach/Parking Area
The situation remains the same:
First Step:
Additional parking bays will be created along Access Road and Myrica Road within the road reserve (areas in green).
A ‘One Way’ sign will be erected in Access Road (north).
A ‘No Entrance’ sign will be erected at the junction between Access Road and Myrica Road.
This means that a section of Access Road will become a one-way towards the parking area at Main Beach.
Egress from Main Beach will only be via Myrica Road.
Second Step:
Parking Area (in “brown”):
Will be levelled/filled with building rubble.
Gravel will then be used to level the area.
Currently the availability of gravel is a concern.
It is hoped that this project will be commenced with within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
This parking area will have to be closed for at least two weeks for this project. Notices to all interested and affected parties (i.e.) neighbours will be served informing them of the closure of the parking area for a certain period.
Silversands:
The situation remains the same:
The area to be cleared for additional parking bays indicated in green.
The access to Erven 5448 and 5447 will be protected.
Building Control:
52 building plans have been submitted and 47 building plans have been approved over the period January – April 2025.
Information has been requested from Overstrand Municipality (OM) regarding building plans submitted and approved in May 2025.
Vehicles:
The Digger is not operational.
The two three-ton trucks used for storm water and tarring are not operational.
The Tippers are operational.
The Roller is operational.
The truck used for watering gravel roads is in for a service. Not operational. However, one can be taken on loan from Gansbaai.
The Grader is operational. However, the roads in Pringle Bay are the priority, followed by those in Betty’s Bay. Keep in mind that most of the gravel roads in Betty’s Bay have recently been scraped.
Gravel:
There is no gravel available. With the new financial year (2025/26) starting in July 2025, gravel will be ordered.
Tar:
There is no tar available. With the new financial year (2025/26) starting in July 2025, gravel will be ordered.
Speed Bumps:
The reconstruction of speed bumps has been dealt with. They remain a contentious issue. Speed bumps on gravel roads are most probably illegal as they cannot be clearly marked as required by Law. Chevrons alone are inadequate as the speedbump must be painted/marked.
Cutting of verges:
The Parks Division of OM is responsible for this and issues must be reported to them.
The Stormwater team in Betty’s Bay is also attending to this issue where possible and given the available workforce.
Stormwater problems/Potholes:
As the Municipality becomes aware of problems, they are addressed within the capacity of the Municipality and given working conditions (weather).
