Betty’s Bay (Engineering / Planning Issues / Building Control)

  1. Parking Areas / Sites to renovated:

The current state of affairs is noted below, following the site inspection that took place on Tuesday, 5th of March 2025 Attendees: Denovan/Brenton/Steffan/Penolopé (OLM), Wayne/Amund (BBRA). Apologies: Cllr. Theresa:

  • Coffee on Clarence/The Hub Parking

  • The “pegs” of the erven need to be determined/re-pegged as it will determine the area to be cleared/filled/levelled.
  • Two areas to be cleared and filled with gravel are indicated in “green”.
  • The availability of gravel is currently a concern.
  • It needs to be determined who will stand in for the cost of “pegging” as a Land Surveyor is needed.

  • Main Beach/Parking Area

  • First Step:

  • Additional parking bays will be created along “Access Road” and “Myrica Road” within the “road reserve” (areas in “green”).
  • A “One-way Sign” will be erected in “Access Road” (north).
  • A “No Entrance Sign” will be erected at the junction between “Access Road” and “Myrica Road”.
  • This means that a section of “Access Road” will become a one-way towards the Parking Area at Main Beach.
  • Access from Main Beach will only be via “Myrica Road”.

  • Second Step:

  • Parking Area (in “brown”):
    • Will be levelled/filled with building rubble.
    • Gravel will then be used to level the area.
    • Currently the availability of gravel is a concern.
  • It is hoped that this project will be commenced with within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
  • This parking area will have to be closed for at least two weeks for this project. Notices to all interested and affected parties (i.e.) neighbours will be served informing them of the closer of the parking area for a certain period.

  • Silver Sands:

    • The area to be cleared for additional parking bays indicated in “green:
    • The access to Erven 5448 and 5447 will be protected.
    • This project will be dealt with in due course.

  1. Building Control:
  • 52 Building Plans have been “submitted” and 47 Building Plans have been “approved” for the period January 2025 until April 2025.

  1. Vehicles:
  • Storm water:
    • All vehicles are in “working order”.
    • S/W problems are attended to, i.e.:
  1. Wallers Road –  completed
  2. Dolphin Road –  currently attended to
  • Scraping of Roads:
    • The Team has started to scrape the roads in BB again, starting with SS.

  1. Gravel:
  • There is currently 400m³ of gravel available.
  • An additional 300m³ of gravel has been ordered.

  1. Tar:
  • There are still approximately 200 bags of tar available.

  1. Speed Humps:
  • The reconstruction of speed humps is being dealt with.
  • Remains a contentious issue: “speed humps” on gravel roads are most probably illegal as it cannot be clearly marked as required by Law.  “Chevrons” alone are inadequate as the “hump” itself must be painted/marked.

  1. Cutting of verges:
  • The “Parks Division” is responsible for this and must be reported to them.
  • The S/W Team in BB is also attending to this issue, as far as possible and given available manpower.

  1. Stormwater problems/Potholes:
  • As the Municipality becomes aware of problems, it is addressed within the capacity of the Municipality / given working conditions (weather).

  1. Mirror in Seaview:
  • The wind on Saturday (11/05/2025) damaged the mirror in Seaview Drive.
  • It has been replaced.

  1. Standing Note:
  • Residents must log “problems” on the Overstrand Collab Citizen App themselves to get a reference number and / or where it is over a weekend and it is urgent, the Control Room on 028 313 8111 must be phoned.
